Brittany Birberick is a doctoral candidate. Her dissertation project, Paved with Gold, examines the temporality of urban transformation through close attention to declining industry and redevelopment projects on a single street in Johannesburg, South Africa. She also writes about aesthetics, gambling, mobility, and speculation.
