Admissions
Detailed information on applying for admission to the University of California @ Berkeley is available online at www.berkeley.edu. All students must submit an application by the date set by the University.
The Department of Anthropology does not review undergraduate admission applications or play any role in determining who is admitted as an undergraduate to the University of California. We also do not receive copies of any transcripts you submit to the University.
Intent to Declare
For students wishing to declare, or learn more about the Anthropology Major/Minor, please contact the Undergraduate Advisor, Frances Bright (f.bright@berkeley.edu).
Transfer Students
Transfer students should consult with the Undergraduate Advisor, Frances Bright (f.bright@berkeley.edu) in the Anthropology Department, before (or very early into) their first term at UCB to map out a plan for completing major requirements, and to review the courses completed prior to arriving at Cal.
Transfer students should attempt to satisfy prerequisites (Anthro 1, 2, 3) before arriving at UC Berkeley.
Visit the ASSIST website to help determine which courses offered at California Community Colleges can be used to satisfy major pre-requisites. If any Anthropology courses are completed at any place other than a California Community College, or courses not listed on the ASSIST website, will be reviewed by Faculty for approval to fulfill any major requirements. Students must provide a course description, detailed syllabus, course reading list, and personal statement.
The College of Letters and Science requires that transfer students officially declare a major in their first semester at Cal; failure to do so can result in a registration block.
Transfer Direct Admission to Major
Transfer students who select this major on their UC Berkeley application are automatically declared and do not need to take any other action to join the major. Any remaining declaration requirement courses that are not completed prior to transfer must be completed to graduate. Please contact Frances Bright (f.bright@berkeley.edu) as soon as possible to plan out your path to graduation and refer to the website here for more information on Direct Admission.
