Research Interests: Hunter-Gatherers, Jomon, Human-Environmental Dynamics, Plant Management, Landscape Management, Traditional Ecological Knowledge, Sustainability, and Soil Health
About:
My research interest is in the long-term human-environmental dynamics of hunter- gatherers within the context of both the biosphere and lithosphere. Applying geoarchaeological, archaeobotanical, and experimental approaches, my goal is to investigate temporal and spatial distribution patterns of human activities and its ecological impact conducting a multi-scalar study of long-term land-use. I aim to describe and explain the food intensification processes of Japanese Jomon hunter-gatherers from a historical ecology perspective. By deepening understanding of long-term local and regional Jomon cultural and ecological dynamics, I hope to increase our understanding of our contemporary ecosystems and human ecology. Prior to joining Berkeley, I received my BSc in Archaeology from University College London, UK and my MSc in Archaeological Science from Leiden University, NL.
