Jing Ge

Research

Jing Ge’s research focuses on the dynamic and intricate conversational structures and the use of multimodal forms of language on social media. She explores how user conversations occur in an interconnected and multidirectory networked space and analyses communication patterns that emerge from these interactions. By applying different linguistic approaches (rhetorical approach, social/visual semiotics, semantics, pragmatics), Jing examines how business organizations and consumers deploy textual and visual language for persuasion and for value co-creation. Her recent research investigates graphicon use (emoji, stickers, memes) on social media through a social linguistic lens. The application areas of Jing’s research currently include the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in marketing communications, graphicon design and optimization of social media systems.

Profile

Jing Ge received her B.A. from Dalian Foreign Language University, China. She received her M.A. from the University of Canberra, Australia and was awarded her PhD in Marketing Communication from the University of Queensland, Australia. Jing was a visiting researcher at Stanford University and had the research training on qualitative methodologies. Jing has close to 10 years of industry experience, where she specialized in online marketing communication, PR, and social media.
