Honors
Programs
Honors
at Commencement
The Kroeber Prize is awarded at the commencement ceremony to the student
judged to have written the outstanding thesis in anthropology that year.
The McCown Prize is awarded to the outstanding graduating senior of the
year. All anthropology majors with a minimum of 3.60 GPA in the major
program are eligible to compete for the McCown prize
College Honors
The College of Letters and Science awards Honors for outstanding academic achievement. Students qualify for College Honors based solely on overall GPA. To be awarded a level of "Distinction in General Scholarship," a student must complete a minimum of 50 units on the Berkeley campus (at least 43 of which must be letter-graded) and have an overall Berkeley GPA equal to or higher than the GPA established for Honors. Details, including GPA minimums, can be found at the College's website.
Calculating
the Major GPA
Divide the total Berkeley units into the total accumulated grade points.
Points per unit: A=4 , A-=3.7, B+=3.3, B=3, B=2.7, C+=2.3,
C=2, C-=1.7, D+=1.3, D=1, D-=.7, F=0.
Example: a 4 unit B- is worth 10.8 grade points (4 x 2.7=10.8)
4 unit B- is 10.8
5 unit A is 20.0
4 unit A- is 14.8
_____________
