Undergraduate Program: The Minor
Course Requirements. To earn a minor in Anthropology you must complete a total of seven classes. Two lower-division and five upper-division.
Lower Division.
Choose two from:
Anthro 1: Introduction to Biological Anthropology
Anthro 2 or 2AC: Introduction to Archaeology
Anthro 3 or 3AC: Introduction to Social Cultural Anthropology
Five upper-division.
Choose five Anthropology classes from courses numbered 100-196.

•A minimum of four upper-division courses must be taken at UC Berkeley
in the Anthropology Department (upon approval, one course may be from an EAP, or taken at another 4 year institution).
•All courses must be taken for a letter grade.
•A minimum C (2.0) average is required in all anthropology course
work.
•A maximum of one approved upper-division course may
satisfy requirements of both the student's major and the anthropology
minor program.
•If you complete Anthropology courses (upper or lower-division) some place other than a California Community College, faculty will have to review the classes to determine if they can be used to fulfill any of the major requirements. If you would like to have courses reviewed for possible credit, you must complete a “Petition for Course Substitution Form” and a detailed syllabus for each class you want evaluated.

The procedure for confirming an Anthropology minor:
When you have completed all 7 courses, or during the semester you are enrolled in the final course(s), submit the following items to the Undergraduate Advising Office in 209 Kroeber.
1. Petition for Confirmation of Minor Program Completion and the Department's Minor Application Form (both available online or outside 209 Kroeber).
2. Unofficial transcripts. If you completed any of the minor requirements at an institution other than UCB, you must submit transcripts showing the courses you took and the grades you earned.
