Berkeley has the highest number of faculty to have been awarded the J.I. Staley Prize, the only major book award in anthropology, and numbers numerous Distinguished Lecturers of the American Anthropological Association and its Archeology Division, among other honors for research and for individual publications. Faculty teaching has been recognized with the University's Educational Initiatives Award, the Distinguished Teaching Award of the Division of Social Sciences, the Faculty Award for Outstanding Mentorship of GSIs of the Graduate Council and the Graduate Mentoring Award of the Graduate Assembly. Faculty service has resulted in the Academic Senate's Leon Henkin Citation for Distinguished Service, the Chancellor's Award for Public Service, and the Berkeley Faculty Service Award.

The Anthropology Department Chair is Professor Rosemary Joyce and the Department Manager is Susan Wells. Together, they manage a faculty of 28 and a staff of 10 to facilitate research and teaching for more than 100 graduate students, over 300 undergraduate majors, and hundreds of other students who take classes in Anthropology.

The faculty Undergraduate Advisors are Professors Junko Habu, Lawrence Cohen (Fall), and Charles Hirschkind (Spring). The faculty Graduate Advisors are Professors Mariane Ferme (Fall), Liu Xin (Spring), and Kent Lightfoot. The Faculty Advisor for GSI Affairs is Professor Steven Shackley. The faculty Equity Officer is Professor Margaret Conkey.
